Howdy and hello! Thank you for visiting Kabuki Crosswords! If you’re reading this pretty soon after I post it, then I have no idea how you got here! Hahah. I just set this site up and have not publicized it at all yet, so you are one of the lucky few who will see this site in its infancy. Hopefully, however, you are visiting after I have a few puzzles posted already, and you can start solving!
Since I’ve got your attention, though, I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Lawrence, and I’ve been working as an English teacher in Japan since 2009. I live in a small city called Kurobe on the main island (Honshu), about a 5 hour drive away from Tokyo. Being a rural city, Kurobe doesn’t have much to offer at first glance, but it is a beautiful little place sandwiched between the Japanese alps to the South and East, and Toyama Bay to the West. Every day (when it’s not cloudy, that is) I get to wake up to an amazing sunrise over the mountain range, and finish with a spectacular sunset over the bay. I am absolutely blessed to live in a place like this, and for those of you whose image of Japan is the neon and concrete jungle of Tokyo that you see in movies, I encourage you to come visit the majestic Japanese countryside. I promise you will not be disappointed.
Anyways, I am brand new to the puzzle construction game, but I have been a solver since I was in high school in St. Louis, Missouri. My sister and I used to work on the Post-Dispatch’s crossword together at the breakfast table before school, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Nowadays I use crosswords to help keep my English skills sharp, since most of my everyday interactions occur in Japanese. I’m a big fan of Matt Gaffney, Evan Birnholz, and a subscriber to the American Values Club crossword, to give you an idea of my sort of taste. I recently read up on crossword construction techniques and I’ve decided to put all my years of solving experience to good use and start to create my own puzzles!
It’s been a slow and somewhat rocky start as I learn how to do this, but I’m sure the more I practice, the better I’ll get! I can’t promise any kind of a release schedule as of yet because I’m not used to it and haven’t figured out exactly how long it should take me to put a puzzle together. But please bear with me and I would also appreciate any constructive criticism you can offer me, either through comments here, or by emailing kabukicrosswords [at] gmail [dot] com
My first puzzle will be up very soon, so please check back again! Thank you!
